Melba Kathern McKey

November 5, 1931 — July 2, 2025

Denver

Melba Kathern McKey, age 93, passed away at Briarwood Healthcare Center in Denver, Colorado on July 2, 2025. Melba was born on November 5, 1931, in Mulhaul, Oklahoma. Her early years were spent on a farm near Mulhaul. Melba's family later moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma. While attending Guthrie High School, Melba met Loren Dewayne McKey. In the same month that Melba graduated, Loren and Melba exchanged vows at the Guthrie Church of the Nazarene.

They spent the early years of their marriage in Springfield, Missouri, but the beautiful Colorado mountains stole their hearts. In 1967, with their three children in tow, they decided to make Colorado their home. They were married for 47 wonderful years until Loren's passing in 1997.

Melba loved music, art, and cooking. She especially loved to sing with her brother Donald, who was also a talented musician. Melba was active in church choirs throughout her life, reflecting her deep faith. The most important things to Melba were God and her family (including her furry family members - usually dogs).

Melba is survived by her two daughters Kathy and Karen, her son Robert, and ten grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Floyd, several great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, a niece, a nephew, and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Loren, her parents, two brothers, and two grandchildren.

A luncheon/reception to celebrate Melba's life, with family and friends, will take place following interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery.  Details pending.
