Maxwell K. Morse, lovingly known as "Max," passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, at the age of 79, with his loving wife, son, and daughter by his side after a courageous four-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Max was born on April 23, 1947, in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Ardon and Reca (Maxwell) Morse. He graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering before proudly serving his country in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972, retiring as a Captain. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Thomas "Tom" Morse, with whom he shared many cherished memories growing up together in South Dakota.
Max married the love of his life, Jeanne (Germann), on June 12, 1970. In 1974, they moved to Colorado with their young son, Todd, who was born in 1973, and built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and service to others. Their family later grew with the birth of their daughter, Elizabeth, in 1978. Max devoted himself to an extraordinary 52-year career as an Electrical Engineer with the United States Government's Western Area Power Administration, serving from 1969 until his retirement in 2021.
Max was a devoted member of Lakewood United Methodist Church for more than 40 years. One of his greatest passions was serving as the Sound Engineer for worship services, where his quiet dedication helped support countless church gatherings and celebrations.
For the past 15 years, Max had developed a deep passion for researching his Scottish Maxwell family heritage, from whom he inherited his name. Alongside his wife Jeanne, he proudly assisted his son in setting up and manning the Clan Maxwell Society booth at Colorado Scottish festivals. He greatly enjoyed sharing stories, history, and fellowship with others who appreciated Scottish heritage and traditions. One of the highlights of his later years was his trip to Scotland in April 2019, where he visited several historic Maxwell estates, including the famed Castle Caerlaverock.
Those who knew Max will remember his outgoing and friendly personality, his gentle and kind spirit, and the unmistakable twinkle in his eye that always appeared just before he delivered one of his beloved puns or jokes. He had a gift for making people laugh and feel welcome, and he was always there for his family and friends whenever they needed him.
Max was a beloved son, husband, brother, father, uncle, and friend whose warmth and humor touched many lives. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; his son, Todd; and his daughter, Elizabeth.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM, Applewood Valley United Methodist Church, 2035 Ellis St., Golden, CO 80401, with a reception to follow. Burial will be a private ceremony at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
