In Loving Memory, Beloved Wife and Devoted Mother
Maureen Frances Sullivan-Lajczok was born on July 4th, 1954. From the beginning of her life's journey, she spread joy and happiness to those around her. At a very young age she became passionate about horses and horseback riding, with that love shared with all animals, and a particular soft spot for Newfoundland's. She would spend her days riding around the peaceful farm she dearly loved in New Hampshire with her father and cousins. Growing up, Maureen discovered another passion for painting and artwork. Through this passion, this incredible woman was able to share the magic and majesty of the world surrounding her with all of us. Seeing the world through her artwork sparked a sense of wonder that becomes lost to many during their lives. She continued to share this artwork at restaurants, around the house, and to make her son and grandchildren smile. Maureen was a majestic and wonderful soul and the constant optimism and joy she had for any and every situation was contagious to those around her. She loved her husband, Mark, with all her heart. The Lord worked to bring them together, moving the universe to guide them to meet. On one fateful day on the Arkansas river while white water rafting, Maureen and Mark sat next to each other on the last boat, and their story of love and family continued for the next 37 years. Her voice was just another one of these outlets for inspiration. Singing to her friends, son, and grandchildren lulled them into a sense of warmth and comfort that few things can achieve. The notes of her lullabies and songs would dance through the air, illuminating the unseen beauty of all things. She was adventurous and worldly, taking every opportunity she had to relish her Irish heritage and see the wonders that the Earth had to offer. She shared this adventure with her son, spending every waking moment exploring her home state of Colorado and making sure his life was filled with magic for as long as possible. Maureen was extremely proud of her Irish background and would make St. Patrick's Day feel like the biggest celebration of the year, watching the lord of the dance, making corned beef and cabbage, and watching 'The Quiet Man". With so much love inside of her, she had to share it and make her home open and welcoming to all her son, Chris', friends. She was like a mother to anyone who met her and greeted them with a bright smile and a warm embrace. Maureen always put everyone above herself and would take every opportunity to make someone feel loved and appreciated. Even on her worst days, she would smile at you, tell you she loves you, and how good of a person you were. God made her as one of his kindest creations and she celebrated him in all her works, deeds, and every Sunday at church. All her decisions were guided by the Lord, and she put him at the forefront of her life, being one of the most devoted followers that I have ever seen. Even after falling ill with dementia and Alzheimer's, she would praise the lord and all his good works. Maureen graduated with a B.A. in Internal Affairs and Psychology from Loretto Heights College in Colorado and extensively studied art and German. Her kind heart and soul worked in many positions where her keen intelligence shone brightly. These positions included caring for children with mental disability, interning with Colorado State Representative Timothy Wirth, working as a Legal Secretary, and being a brief member of the White House press advance team during the Carter administration With her strong willpower and upbeat attitude, nothing could bring her down and she would continue to laugh, smile, hug, and tell everyone she talked to, "You're so good". Her strength and devotion to life, her husband, Mark, and her son, Chris, was something that you only experience once in a lifetime. Though she is no longer here, her heart has touched and been shared by so many, that her legacy will live forever. May all those experience the love that Maureen gave so willingly, and may she rest in eternal peace.
Maureen is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Thomas Francis Sullivan Jr., and her mother, Helen P. McDermott. Maureen is survived by her sister, Sheila M. Sullivan; husband, Martin Ralph Lajczok; her son, Christopher Thomas Lajczok and his wife, Kourtney Anne Lajczok; her grandson, Xander Theodore Rueschhoff; and her granddaughter, Madilyn Anne Lajczok.
