Matthew MacLachlan, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on March 3, 2025, slipping away peacefully in the comfort of his wife and children. He enjoyed a short but incredibly full 50 years on this earth. Matt always seemed to know his days were numbered, and somehow, he found a way to live twice as full of a life in the time he had.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 28, 1974, Matt was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan—never missing a chance to cheer on the Wolverines. He built a career as an engineer, ascending to the role of Director of Transportation and Implementation for the City and County of Denver, but his proudest title was husband and father. His greatest joy came from spending time with his wife, Lindsay, and being a selfless, devoted dad to his children: Keller (25), Violet (11), and Elliott (9). Matt is survived by his loving parents, Rod and Mary, and Mary and Ray, as well as his brothers Jeff, Aaron, and Andy.
Matt’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, but his spirit lives on in the countless people whose lives he touched. His family encourages everyone to honor his memory by embracing life the way he did — saying yes to spontaneous plans, being fully present in every conversation, pulling out a board game in the idle moments, and always finding joy in the little things.
A tribute of Matt’s life will be held on Thursday, March 13th from 3:30 – 7:00 pm at Wynkoop Brewery in downtown Denver (1634 18th St, Denver, CO 80202) on the 2nd floor. Light food & drinks will be served. Speaking will begin at 5pm. Kids are encouraged to attend.
The family is kindly declining flowers at this time. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help offset end of life expenses and support Violet’s and Elliott’s college expenses (one of Matt’s primary focuses). The GoFundMe page can be found at:
