Mary Ellen was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic school, St. Anthony High school, and St. Catherine College. She received a bachelor’s degree in library science, and worked for the Minneapolis Public Library for a short time.
Mary Ellen married her husband Robert, and they moved to San Diego to start a new life together. After a year and a half, they relocated to Denver and then to Lakewood, where they lived for 63 years. She was a mother to five children in eight years, and served as a homemaker for the family. Then nine years later she was a mother again.
Mary Ellen was a founding member of St. Jude parish. She was involved in the Little Parish movement at the church, and was a caregiver in the Befriender group. Her declining health prevented her from participating in church activities in her later years.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband Bob of 67 years and her children Anne (Robert) Borg, Catherine Sipple, Joseph (Lori), Stephen (Gina), Paula (Ronnie) Davis, Marie, ten grandchildren, and her sister Frances DeWell.
