Mary Ellen Markel, 86, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on May 31, 2019. Mary Ellen was born to Albert E. and Margaret Seep on September 16, 1932 in Denver, Colorado.
Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her mother and father; by her husband, John E. Markel; and by two of her sisters, Josephine Ann Meyer (James â deceased) and Corinne Nylander (Fred â deceased). She is survived by her children, Linda Watson (Burt) and Robert Markel (Melissa); by her other siblings, Albert E. (""Ted"") Seep, Jr. (Willie), Kathy Hendricks (Ron), and Larry Seep; and by three grandchildren, Carrie, Madison, and Gabriel.
Mary Ellen was raised in Denver and graduated from St. Mary's Academy. She attended Lone Mountain College in San Francisco and the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Mary Ellen worked at Kaiser Permanente as a medical transcriptionist for nearly 40 years. She participated in her husband's sports car racing by volunteering her time with the local branch of the Sports Car Club of America in organizing the registration for the races and performing other secretarial work. She enjoyed stamp collecting (including volunteering at the Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library), jazz music, talk radio, puzzles, embroidery, and making floral arrangements. She delighted in the company of her large extended family. She loved animals (especially Snoopy from the Peanuts comic) and donated to many animal rights organizations.
In honor of Mary Ellen, a memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 2375 E. Arizona Avenue in Denver at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019. Committal service will take place that same day at 2:15 p.m., Staging Area âCâ, Fort Logan National Cemetery.
