Mary Alice Leeper (Taube) passed away peacefully in Evergreen, Colorado on May 14, 2025, just 2 days before her 88th birthday. Mary was born on May 16, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the second of four children born to William Roger Taube, Sr. and Alice Taube (Heuring). Her father was a career military officer, and the family lived in numerous locations, including several years in Japan immediately following the end of World War II in the Pacific. Mary attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
She married James F. Leeper, Jr. "Jim" on August 24, 1956. They had 3 children and lived in Dallas, Texas for over 50 years before moving to Evergreen, Colorado. They had been married for 61 years at the time of his passing in 2018.
Mary spent 30 years working in the mortgage industry, rising from administrative assistant to Vice President and manager of the mortgage underwriting departments at several large mortgage banks. She was a devoted mother and friend to many. Mary was known for her encouraging spirit, devotion, and resilience in the face of challenges. She loved spending time with family.
Mary is survived by her daughters Pam Shackelford and husband Kerry Shackelford (Evergreen, Colorado), Debbie Campbell and husband Chuck Campbell (Houston, Texas); her son Steve Leeper and wife Lori Leeper (Evergreen, Colorado); grandchildren Maddie Shackelford Draper, Sydney Shackelford, Christian Shackelford, Will Campbell, Kyle Campbell, Kate Campbell, Nathan Demers, Danielle Demers Hicks; five great grandchildren; and her sister, Nancy Taube Kerr.
The family would like to express our appreciation to all the wonderful caregivers at Elk Run Assisted Living in Evergreen for taking such good care of Mary and to the nurses, physical therapists, and occupational therapists at Mount Evans Home Health for all their wonderful care and encouragement to her.
Mary will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in a private ceremony followed by a Celebration of Life.
