Mary Sue Freiberg, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, in her Berthoud, CO home at the age of 79. She was surrounded by her family when she entered eternal rest.
The beautiful, magnetic, raven-haired Mary Sue was born on October 15, 1946, in Wichita Falls, TX to the late Ida Childs and William Cantwell. Preceded in death by brothers Johnny and Robert Cantwell, sister Connie Mae Cantwell, and survived by sister Sheila Cox.
Mary met the love of her life, Kenneth John Freiberg and married him in November of 1966. They spent 59 wonderful years together until Ken passed away in February of 2025.
As an Italian homemaker, Mary’s daily life was filled with food, family, friends and many adventures. Mary always made holidays and gatherings special because everyone belonged, even treated like family, and no one ever went away hungry.
Mary loved and fought hard for what she believed in. Strong in her Mormon faith and devoted to her family and friends, Mary Sue loved and cared for her tribe with fierce protection and enormous affection.
Mary loved to travel and see the world. Together or with friends and family, Ken and Mary explored all continents on the earth gathering life-lasting memories.
Mary is survived by her children; Clayton Sword, Kim Gronlie, Kristoper Freiberg, Toni Cox, and Kevin Freiberg, and leaves the legacy of many wonderful grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Mary is preceded in death by her daughter Mary Cox.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, May 27, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home on 7577 W 80th Avenue, Arvada, CO
Funeral services will start Thursday, May 28, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 7080 Independence Street, Arvada, CO. The service will be followed by a reception from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm in the same building.
Burial services will start at 2:00 pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 4400 W. Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO. – Burial site will not be available for visitors until 4:00 pm.
