Mary Norton Chapman died peacefully on February 1, 2024. She is survived by 11 grandchildren whom she adored. To Mary, family was paramount. She loved to attend birthday celebrations, graduations, recitals, swim meets, volleyball, lacrosse and hockey games as she did with her four children Jeff, Greg, John and Sheila. Mary possessed an authentic sense of humor and wit. She loved to meet people and enjoyed chatting with anyone. In the early years, Mary hosted countless teens at her house, cooking mountains of crepes, driving to Florida in the blue van, knitting Christmas stockings for every family member all while driving kids to countless sporting events.
Mary grew up in Minneapolis with her sister, Patty and her mother Helen after her father passed away. She attended Annunciation Grade School in South Minneapolis and graduated High school from Visitation Convent. After marrying Jack Chapman, they moved to Edina where they raised their kids and lived for 25 years. Once the kids moved out, they spent retirement on Sylvan Lake in Brainerd MN where they both enjoyed the community and golfing at Maddens. In 2015, Mary and Jack moved to their current home in Colorado to be closer to their grandchildren.
Mary was a mother and friend to many and raising her kids was the love of her life. Many share fun stories of the Chapman household through the years, the laughs she shared, the many pets she rescued (who remembers Shatzie, Wimpy, Cookie, Moose or Sybil?)! She loved to entertain and golf with friends throughout her life.
Mary will be forever loved.
Mary is survived by her husband Jack; her sons Jeff, his wife Elissa, and their children Ella (20), Connor (18) and Finn (15); Greg, his wife Erin and their children Mackenzie (24), Sam (22) and Ben (20); John, his wife Willow and his children Zachary (21) and Kate (20); her daughter Sheila, and her children Madeline (16), Meghan (14) and Macy (11); her sister and brother in law Patricia and Ron Mangelsdorf.
