Martin Ignacio Riley

Martin Riley was born on February 1, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, where he spent all 83 years of his life.

Martin was the beloved son of Robert and Martha Riley, the oldest of four children, and a protective brother to Berta, Ronnie, and Sylvia.

For 63 years, he shared a loving marriage with his wife, Virginia. Together they built a family, raising four sons—Steven, Manuel, Martin Jr, and Daniel.

Martin leaves behind a lasting legacy through his seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. He had a special bond with his daughters-in-law, loving them as though they were his own.

A graduate of West High School, Martin became a skilled machinist and fabricator. He had an incredible talent for fixing almost anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. If you asked him how to repair something, chances are he’d not only explain it—he’d do it for you.

He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing. Whether tying his own flies, making his own lures, or finding the perfect fishing spot, he found peace by the water. One of his favorite traditions was competing with Virginia to see who would catch the first or biggest fish. More often than not, she won—but whether he let her is a secret only he knew.

When he wasn’t fishing, Martin could usually be found in his garage surrounded by the many tools he proudly collected, always building, repairing, or inventing something new.

Though a quiet man, Martin had a dry sense of humor and loved telling stories that kept everyone guessing whether they were true. Whether sharing tales of catching a giant trout at Washington Park or winning many jackpots on slot machines in Black Hawk, he always brought a smile to those around him.

Martin will be remembered most as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and friend. His love, kindness, wisdom, kind heart, quiet strength, & unforgettable blue eyes, will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
