Martha Cooper

April 27, 1941 — August 21, 2025

Denver, CO

Martha Gayle Cooper died at home at the age of 84 in the early morning of August 21st, 2025. Martha was born in Oklahoma City April 27, 1941. Her father was Royce Ray Spencer, and her mother was Grace Evelyn Spencer.

Martha knew what she wanted to do at an early age. She was a beautiful, smart, caring person who loved her family and was an inspiration for everyone she met. She was promoted to the second grade halfway through the first grade after reading all the books in the library. Martha worked a summer job at the Garland Daily News in a small town near Dallas Texas. Martha graduated with high grades from WW Samuell High school while living in Mesquite Texas near Dallas. She attended Stephen F Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. While there she met a best friend who roomed with her at The University of Texas at Austin.

Martha graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Journalism degree. With recommendations from one of her favorite professors, Martha went to work in the publication department of Southland Life Insurance Company in Dallas, Texas. She excelled in her work at Southland Life, becoming editor of the newsletter for the company. Martha met her husband while the two were working at Southland Life Insurance. Alan Cooper was working on a different floor in the computer software development department.

Martha and Alan became best friends, married and moved to Denver Colorado in December of 1968. They bought their first and last house in the Washington Park neighborhood in 1970. They had their son Greg and remained in that house for 57 happy and productive years.

Martha worked for a major PR firm in Denver. She became Executive Secretary of the Western Wear Organization that marketed western Wear to the people who came to the annual western stock show in Denver. She also worked for the work force management team at the state government, where she was instrumental in development of the state-wide system that helps people become employed with the state government. She worked for the Denver Water Department, Clinical Reference Systems, and Opportunity School. Martha loved to work and was good at everything she did, including raising our son Greg. Martha pursued her art hobby, attending art classes at Art Students League of Denver and the Park Hill Art Club. She continued to acquire best friends but decided not to sell her art. She was afraid her art would become work. She enjoyed her art hobby while her husband enjoyed his golf hobby.

Of all their travels together, Martha and Alan were most fond of their travels in Colorado.

Martha was a princess. She was a best friend to her family and everyone she met. She was

a special person and will be missed by all.

Martha was preceded in death by her brother Gerald Spencer. Gerald is survived by his two sons, Randall and Brad, who live in Texas.
