Marjorie Elaine (Lowe) Bernard

Marjorie Elaine (Lowe) Bernard passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, at the age of 89. She is survived by her children, Stephen (Catherine), Jeanne, and David (Carolyn); grandchildren, Meghan (Chris), Shawn (Laura), Rachel (Shane), Andrew; great-grandchildren, Haylee, Claire, Ruth and Alice.

Margie, as she preferred to be called, was predeceased by her husband, Richard; sister, Florence; and parents, Julia and Oscar.

Marjorie was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts in 1936 to Julia and Oscar. She attended Arlington High School and a year of nursing school. She met the love of her life, Richard, while in high school, and they married in 1955. After attending Northeastern University, Richard was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army. Marjorie was a devoted wife, and they launched into a mutual career of military travel.

They were first stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The next year, 1959, Richard was ordered to Fulda, Germany, ahead of the family. Marjorie never forgot her solo flight on a slow propeller plane from the States to Germany with three children under 3 years old in tow! This was the beginning of an adventure of a lifetime! She would gracefully shepherd their children through moves every year or two to Florida, California, Hawaii, Kansas, Missouri, back to Hawaii, and finally Colorado. During the year while Richard served in Korea, and then during his two tours in Vietnam, Margie raised the kids herself. She provided endless chauffeuring of kids to activities like swimming, team sports, scouts, school, and dance. When her husband was home, she enjoyed hosting parties with friends, both formal and informal. While in Hawaii the family spent many wonderful weekends at the beach.

Marjorie's second half of life sadly began with the death of her husband at the very young age of 49. However, looking back over the past forty-plus years, she enjoyed a meaningful life of many passions including traveling, hiking, painting, skiing, golfing, bowling, playing bridge, and gardening. Margie was a good skier and skied until age 80! She made many friends and enjoyed playing bridge for years. She volunteered as a ski instructor for disabled children at Winter Park and enjoyed teaching skiing to her grandchildren. She played in the women's league at the Fox Hollow golf course. She loved the mountains and the beach, spending time at her condos in Vail and Silver Creek, and traveling to tropical destinations.

Margie did a wonderful job raising her children and exposing them to many cultures. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
