Marion Woodward

June 22, 1933 — December 6, 2023

Marion Woodward passed away peacefully early in the morning of December 6 at Holly Creek Retirement Community in Centennial, Colorado.

Marion was born on June 22, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri to Walter Raymond Fetzer and Hulda Haining Fetzer. She was raised in Clayton, Missouri in her childhood, and moved to Clinton, Iowa, as a teenager. She competed in the Miss Iowa competition in 1954 representing her hometown.

She attended Carlton College in Minnesota, then transferred to the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where she met her future husband, Jim Woodward, while he was in residency to become an Ophthalmologist. They married in August, 1957, then had their son, Steven Mitchell, the following year. Carolyn Louise was born in 1961, and the family moved shortly afterward to Denver, one of the few places they thought would be a wonderful place for their family to grow.

Marion was involved in several community organizations; she was also an avid tennis player and excelled in bridge, as well as gathering together a group of wonderful women as friends. In 1978, she became a flight attendant for Ports of Call, a private flying club based in Denver, when she saw her nest becoming empty. She traveled the world, often with Jim, and an adventure was always on the horizon.

Jim and Marion moved to Holly Creek in 2014 where she became involved in the hospitality committee, the food committee, and the excursion committee. Jim passed in 2021, but Marion remained active in the community. She is remembered for her gorgeous smile and generous spirit.

Marion is survived by her two children, Steven (Claudine) Woodward, Carolyn (Steven) Pope, grandchildren Michael Woodward, Jessica Woodward and Maxine Woodward, Mara Pope, Brandie Dallmann (Matt) and Susan (Jarid) Bortz, and great-granddaughters Elizabeth Bortz and Allie Dallmann.
