Marilyn Elizabeth (Tiernan) Burnett (89) passed away peacefully, at dawn, the morning of March 16, 2024.
Marilyn was born in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of a jeweler and a homemaker. As a child she moved with her brothers and parents to Fort Dodge, Iowa. There she attended Catholic schools where she developed her love of reading and writing. Shortly out of high school, she met the love of her life, Jerry Burnett. The two fell hopelessly in love, married, and began their family with the birth their first child, each were age nineteen. Many doubted the young couples chances for success, but their deep, undying love for one another shone brightly, and persisted steadily until Marilyn’s very last breath. The couple had four children Jerlyn, Gregory, Michael, and Timothy. Eventually the family left Iowa for Minneapolis, Minnesota, then ultimately settling in Littleton, Colorado where Marilyn and Jerry spent 51 years of their 68 years of marriage.
Marilyn was kind and thoughtful to all. She was beautiful with stunning blue eyes and a sweet smile. She was quick witted with her own special brand of dry humor. She loved to read, collect Hummels, travel, and play bridge. She especially loved teddy bears in all shapes, sizes, and colors. She played a good game of golf with her straight shot right down the middle of the fairway, and consistent putting. She was always a good sport at any endeavor. She was selfless to everyone she met, and a devoted Christian all her life. Marilyn’s curious nature and subtle humorous quips will be missed by all.
Marilyn was proceeded in death by her parents, Annabelle and Alfred Tiernan; a brother, Richard Tiernan; her oldest adult child, Jerilyn (Burnett) Foster; and her youngest adult child, Timothy Burnett. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Burnett; brother, Michael (Carol) Tiernan; son Gregory (Lauren) Burnett; son Michael (Vicki) Burnett; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren, all of whom will miss Marilyn dearly.
