Marie Jean Lucille Abbiss

February 22, 1920 — September 24, 2019

Marie Jean Lucille Abbiss (nee Baker) was born February 22, 1920 in Carnon Downs, Cornwell, England. Jean did well in school and loved playing the piano. In 1939 Jean joined the Royal Observer Corp., plotting German ships and planes heading for England. In 1941 she married Capt. Harry John Abbiss who was serving in the British Army. They welcomed their first child-Yvonne in 1943 and a second daughter Hilary in 1947. After the war, the family moved to Newfoundland, Canada in 1949 where John was a mining engineer. Jean became a full- time mother when she had 2 more children, a son Paul in 1951 and daughter Susan in 1952. Nine years later in 1958 the family moved to New Mexico, Jean’s favorite place. She loved the country and beautiful sunsets. As the children grew, Jean worked as a secretary for an Optometrist for many years. During retirement Jean and John traveled to Europe and the Caribbean. The couple moved to Centennial in 1998 to be near their oldest daughter Yvonne. John passed in 2013. Since then, Jean has lived at Someran Glen Retirement Center. Jean leaves behind her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Jean was a wonderful wife and mother. We love you mum and you will be greatly missed.
