Margie Steinke passed into eternal life on August 16, 2024. She was 88 years young. She loved caring for people, especially young people, and developed close and long-lasting friendships with other teachers and nurses.
Margie Ann Craig was born April 3, 1936 in Muncie, Indiana to Pauline and William Craig. She was the second of ten children with one older brother, one younger sister and seven younger brothers. Margie attended St. Lawrence Catholic School and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1954. She then graduated from St. Vincent’s Nursing School in 1957.
Margie and 3 friends came to Colorado and fell in love with Denver in 1957. She also fell in love with Allan Steinke and they were married on December 27, 1958.
Margie worked as a nurse at St. Joseph’s hospital until 1963 when she became a full-time mom. She resumed her career in 1978 working with kindergarten students at Greenwood Elementary. Her nursing career continued when she became a school nurse at Willow Creek Elementary in 1984. Margie also went to night school and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis College of Illinois in 1987. She was named Colorado School Nurse of the year in 1997. She “retired” in 2000 but continued to teach baby sitting and CPR through South Suburban Recreation District for several more years. Margie is a devout Catholic Christian and volunteered in several ministries at All Souls and St. Thomas More parishes.
Margie will be celebrated with a rosary and memorial at Horan & McConaty at 7 PM on Tuesday September 3 and a funeral mass at St. Thomas More at 11 AM on Wednesday September 4. She will be buried at Ft. Logan National Cemetery next to Allan, who preceded her in 2016.
Margie is survived by: son Scott and his wife Carol from The Woodlands, TX (granddaughter Amanda and grandson Craig); son Chris and his wife Debbie from Highlands Ranch, CO (grandson Steven and granddaughter Taylor); son Lance and his wife Michele from Minneapolis, MN (granddaughter Jane and grandson Josh); brother Bob Craig of Omaha, NE; brother Joe Craig (Polly) of Carmel, IN; brother Don Craig (Lee DiSante) of Brecksville, OH; brother Jim Craig (Sunni) of Terrell, TX; brother Tim Craig (Maria) of Mandeville, LA; sister-in-law Jackie Craig of Muncie, IN; cousin Lesley Felts of Seattle, WA.
Margie’s family who preceded her: husband Allan; mother Pauline (Eigenmann) Craig, father William F. Craig Sr.; sister Patty Craig (Stough); brothers Bill Craig Jr., Michael Craig and Tom Craig; stepmother Ann Craig Galliher.
