Margaret T. O'Hara

Margaret T. O’Hara, age 97, passed away on July 22, 2023 in Littleton, Colorado. Peg was born on February 24, 1926 in Boston, Massachusetts, the youngest of nine children to first generation Irish Catholic parents Patrick Joseph and Bridget Theresa O’Hara. As a fresh college graduate of only 22 years old, in response to a teacher shortage on the west coast, Peg left her Boston home and family and moved across the country to Portland, Oregon - a brave and adventurous decision for a woman of her age and time. It was there that she met Frank Tipton, whom she married and then had four children, Michael, Patrick, Sue and Ann. After living in Vancouver, Washington, and Boise, Idaho, they settled in Colorado in 1968, where she lived for the rest of her life. She said she grew to love the mountains and sunshine of Colorado, but always loved the ocean – both coasts, but especially Cape Cod, where she spent many summers during her childhood and, in her later years, at her very own cottage. Peg held many jobs over the years including teacher, employment advisor, and sales of many kinds.  She was a lifelong learner, loved to keep her body active by walking and aquacise, and her mind sharp with daily newspaper reading, crossword puzzles and Sodoku, writing letters to family and friends, and playing card games. Family was most important to her – she loved spending time with her children and their families, as well as family on the east coast with whom she visited at the Cape and kept up with throughout the year by phone and letter.  Peg also had a collection of close friends from childhood, her years on the west coast and in Colorado.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Sue Oswalt (Loren) and Ann Pollack (Keith); her grandchildren Bridget Stevens (Carson), Rory Tipton (Marie), Kyle Tipton, Kazimera Gibson (Mark), Joey O’Hara, Tamar Wright (Jason), Kearsty Bogenrief (Aaron), Eric Maestas (Danielle), Sarah Pollack, Sage Pollack (Steph), Max Pollack (Erin), and Levi Pollack (Micah); great grandchildren Shaleigh, Braden, Quinn, Keegan, Casey, Jack, Chevelle, Clay, Drew, Copper, Opal, Ryker, Keyton, Maddix, Avi, Aiden, Tara, Ethan, Camille, and Annaleigh; and great great grandson, Lincoln; and many cousins, nieces and nephews and their children. She is preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, her sons Michael and Patrick, and grandson, Jamin.
