Margaret (Maggie) Cash Dillon, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, age 85, of Denver, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a short illness on August 18, 2025.
Maggie was born June 6, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of the late Justin and Ione (Barker) Cash. She attended Southwest High School and Colorado State University (CSU) where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After graduating from CSU in 1962 with a degree in history and education she began her teaching career in Mountain Home, Idaho. She then taught social studies and physical education at North Arvada Junior High and in Denver Public Schools for many years. She met the love of her life, Jack Dillon, at the Minturn Country Club on New Year’s Eve, 1965. They raised three children in their house on Downing Street and were married for 49 years until Jack’s passing in 2016.
Maggie always enjoyed a good get together with her family and friends. She loved spending time at the family cabin north of Steamboat Springs on the Elk River and hiking in North Routt County. She was an avid card player. Bridge was her favorite game but she loved to play Kings in the Corner with her grandkids. Maggie enjoyed swimming, reading, dogs, cooking and going to movies with her friends. Maggie loved to travel. She enjoyed many adventures with her family and her best friend Gertraud. She climbed Longs Peak twice while attending Cheley Camp outside of Estes Park in her teens.
But most of all she was a doting and loving grandmother to seven beautiful grandkids. She and Jack attended as many of their sporting events and performances as they could. Maggie was always so proud of their accomplishments (big or small) and never let a moment pass where she didn’t boast about them to her friends and neighbors.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Justin Cash, sister Barbara LaVelle, and her husband, Jack Dillon. Maggie is survived by her beloved children Julie (Dillon) Sullivan of Fort Collins, John C Dillon and Ryan J Dillon of Denver. She is also survived by her son- and daughters-in-law; Shawn Sullivan, Daniela Dillon and Kate Dillon as well as her niece Margie Gater, Half Moon Bay, CA, and several nieces and nephews. Maggie was the cherished grandmother to Anne, Caroline and Sadie Sullivan; Jack and Hazel Dillon; and Quincy and Cole Dillon.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Denver at 11:00am. Reception to follow at the home of Ryan and Kate Dillon. If you plan to attend please reach out to Julie (970) 286-3258 or Ryan (303) 489-3211.
