Margaret Joan Determan

Margaret Joan (Hassing) Determan age 85 of Westminster, Colorado died August 22, 2023.

Margaret was born June 12, 1938, in Little Falls, Minnesota to Clement and Catherine Hassing.  The second of twin daughters, Margaret was raised and grew up in Randall, Minnesota and graduated from Little Falls High School in 1956.  She graduated from St. Cloud School of Nursing in 1960. She married William Determan on August 26, 1961, and moved to Rocky Ford, Colorado where she worked at Pioneer Memorial Hospital. In 1962, she and Bill moved to Boulder, Colorado where Bill completed his M.A. from CU Boulder and she worked at Longmont United Hospital. They then moved to Fort Madison, Iowa where she worked at the Richmond Clinic.

In 1966, she and Bill moved back to Colorado where she worked for several hospitals and clinics.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Metropolitan State University. She worked as a school nurse for Adams County District 14 and later for VNA of Denver until she retired from nursing.

Margaret enjoyed reading, writing her family memoirs, skiing, golfing, and gardening. She will be remembered for her commitment to excellence as a nurse.  She will be remembered fondly by her grandsons who loved that she cooked wonderful meals and baked cookies and cakes for them whenever she visited. She was a wonderful woman who excelled at so many things. She was loved by many, and she will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clement and Catherine Hassing, her husband Bill, twin sister, Marie Hanley, sister Carol Kersting, brothers-in-law Gene Hanley, Ewald Petersen, and Hubert Lieser, and nephew Mark Hanley and grandniece Kelsi Jo (Kersting).

Margaret is survived by her sisters, Rita Petersen, Agnes Lieser, Jane (Ken) Hemmesch, brother, Edward (Jo) Hassing, daughter Karen (Determan) Alexander, and two grandsons, Christopher (Jillian) and Michael Alexander, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
