Mardell A. Nimmo, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away surrounded by her family on December 3, 2014 at Sunrise Senior Living at Pinehurst. She was 89 years old. Mardee's warm smile and welcoming kindness were felt by all she came in touch with. She found great joy in being with family and friends. They fondly remember her wit and light-hearted sense of humor. Karen Pollock, daughter in heart, attributes much of her own growth as a person to the love and influence she received from Mardee. She was a constant example of the truth in the verse ""We love, because He first loved us."" (1 John 4:19). She passed on to her children and grandchildren a confident belief in love, faith, fairness and trustworthiness. Mardee will always be remembered for her traditional recipes including American Spaghetti, Creamed Chip Beef on Toast, Swedish Meatballs and delicious Russian Teacakes. Mardell was born on September 8, 1925 in Trommald, Minnesota, a 3.93 square mile village in Crow Wing County to dairy farmers, Louis and Stina Aune. She was the youngest of six children. After high school, she worked as a secretary for the Australian, Belgian and United States governments in Washington D.C., during WWII and until 1954 when she married her husband, George S. Nimmo on February 12. George lived in Newark, New Jersey and Mardee in Washington D.C. when they met in a Pocono Mountain Resort. They often quipped that they were forced to get married because they could no longer afford the phone bills associated with a long distance relationship. Mardell is survived by her loving husband, four children (and their spouses), George A. Nimmo, Nancy (Theodore) Doherty, Leslie (Michael) O'Byrne, Laurie (Ezequiel) Ramirez. She also had nine grandchildren, Sebastian, Austin, Gerard and Connor Doherty; Ashley, Sarah and Claire O'Byrne; and Mardell and Ezequiel (Zeke) Ramirez. Family meant everything to Mardee yet, in truth, she was the heart of her family. She is already, and will always be, sorely missed by all of them. The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Sunrise Senior Living at Pinehurst for their genuine loving care for Mardee. It was unmistakably vital for her and also provided her immediate family with the peace of mind knowing she was a welcomed addition to their family.
