Marcella Medina

1923 — January 1, 2022

Lakewood, Colorado

Marcella “Sally” Medina, age 98, passed on to join her Mother, Father, Siblings, Husband Lee Medina, and Step-son, on July 13, 2022, at her home, after a short illness.  She is lovingly survived by her three daughters, Lydia Medina, Patricia Deaton (Phil), and Sandra Barnes (Todd), seven grandchildren; Ernie and Kevin Guill, Bryan and Allison Hausman, Jack and Samantha Barnes, and Chris Deaton, eight great-grandchildren and many, many friends of all ages.

Sally was born in Litchfield, Minnesota, growing up on a farm, and when her parents began to age, and the farm hands were called to war, she returned to and ran the farm.  She milked cows, drove the tractor, tended to the crops, and supervised the remaining workers.  After completing Business College she began her career as a legal secretary, and later became a business owner of Lee’s American Liquors, and Joe’s Cave Bar and Tavern- two popular neighborhood gathering places in the community.

In addition to being a prominent business owner, Sally was extremely involved in her local community.  She served as President of the Barnum Women’s Club, and when the organization disbanded, spearheaded the gifting of all resources to the Barnum Public Library.  She was a long term member of the Loyal Order of the Moose beginning in 1973, and served on the Women of The Moose Ritual Team, including being elected to Senior Regent.   She spent countless hours supporting, and fundraising for, her local chapter of the Moose through preparing meals, calling Bingo, and helping host events at her local Moose Lodge.

Sally was an avid bowler and bowled into her early 90’s.  At age 86 she bowled the high game of the day at 257.  She bowled on the national and international Women of the Moose Bowling Leagues and traveled the country bowling with her team.  She loved to sing, and sang as soprano in the high school choir, even singing on the radio in her small town of Litchfield, Minnesota.  In later life she sang with a local band called The Blue Notes as a guest performer.  Sally loved to dance, and in fact less than a week before her death, she danced with her daughter at Happy Hour.  She was a master of word and card games throughout her entire life.

A rosary will be recited Thursday, July 21, 2022, 2pm, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 22, 2022, 11am, St. Jude Catholic Church, 9405 W. Florida Ave., Lakewood. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Wheat Ridge.

Our Mom was a firecracker and bright light who inspired many.  She was loved by so many people of multiple generations and always had a smile and good word for everyone.  She had a business card titled Retired Entrepreneur, Specializing in Travel, Fun, and Games.   She absolutely lived up to this title.

Godspeed Dear Mama, we miss you already!
