Lynn Haberlie Butts crossed the threshold from mortality to everlasting life and a big hug from Jesus on December 29, 2025. Lynn was born in Houston, Texas, on December 20, 1948. She attended Robert E. Lee High School in Houston and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1970. After college, Lynn worked briefly as a flight attendant for Pan-Am Airlines. She met her husband, Bob, in Houston in May 1972, on a blind date, and they were married in September 1972. They moved from Houston to Orinda, California, for a short time, where their son, Stephen, was born in May 1976. Later that year they moved to Denver, Colorado, where their youngest son, Andrew, was born in March 1979. They lived together in Denver for 49 years, splitting time between Denver and Frisco, Colorado, for 18 years.
Lynn’s relationship with Jesus began at an early age and lasted for her lifetime. She had no fear of dying, certain she would be in his presence.
Lynn loved people and wanted each person she met to feel they were important and had been noticed. From her years living in Frisco, she had names, phone numbers, and birthdays for many of the restaurant staff in restaurants in Frisco and Dillon, to whom she continued to send birthday greetings for the three years after she and Bob left Summit County. Lynn and Bob had a wonderful group of friends in their Summit County hiking group, which enabled her to develop her interest in photography by taking pictures of scenery, flowers, and people on each hike. Lynn also remained close to the friends she and Bob made in the young-couples group at their church in Houston and to her life-long friends from junior-high and high school. As she progressed through her cancer journey, Lynn made friends with her physicians, nurses, and others who took care of her. Lynn didn’t think she was special, but she was.
Lynn is survived by Bob, her husband of 53 years, her sons Stephen (Chisato) and Andrew, her sister Jan (Jeff), Bob’s sister Roberta, nieces Cynthia (Kelly) and Kristin (Dennis), and nephews Justin (Laura) and Scott (Janell), as well as many, many friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lynn’s honor may be made to Greenwood Community Church, 5600 E. Belleview Ave., Greenwood Village, CO 80111, c/o Grant Herbers. However, Lynn will be most honored by the memories you have of her from your times together.
