Lucky Gallagher

September 11, 1937 — July 18, 2025

Lucille “Lucky” Ann Gallagher

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a trailblazer for women in risk management, and Colorado mountain girl at heart.

Lucille Ann Gallagher has been “Lucky” since the day she was born. As legend has it, the moment Lucky entered the world, a cricket began chirping on the windowsill—a sign of good fortune. One of her aunts, present at her birth, declared, “That’s going to be a very lucky young girl.” The name stuck, and fittingly so. Throughout her extraordinary life, she was known to all as Lucky—a name she wore with pride and purpose. Her luck touched everyone she'd meet, and all who would cross her path were blessed with her humor, kindness, love. The fact is that we were all quite “Lucky” to have her in our lives.

Lucky grew up in Grand Lake, Colorado, one of eight children of Perle and Chester Lynch, with six sisters and one brother. A self-proclaimed mountain girl, she embraced the outdoors and cherished her Colorado roots.

She raised two daughters, Tara and Tracey, whom she adored. In 1981, she married the love of her life, Dr. Richard L. Stieg. Their partnership was one of deep devotion, filled with love, laughter, travel, and time together at their mountain home in Silverthorne and with family.

Lucky’s 35-year career in risk management was distinguished by groundbreaking achievements and steadfast leadership. She held numerous executive positions, including Vice President of Risk Management for ConAgra and CEO of Human Resource Risk Management. A former President of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), Lucky was a respected voice in national insurance policy and corporate governance.

Her honors include:

· 1985: Richard W. Bland Award (RIMS)

· 1994: Risk Manager of the Year (Business Insurance)

· 2000: Named to Business Insurance’s “100 Leading Women in Insurance”

· 2014: Induction into the Risk Management Hall of Fame (RMHF)

Beyond her corporate contributions, Lucky was a passionate public servant. She was appointed by two Colorado governors to serve on key state insurance and workers compensation task forces, and she served on various nonprofit boards including Arapahoe House, the Colorado Neurological Institute, and the University of Colorado Insurance Pool.

Despite her professional accolades, Lucky’s greatest legacy was her love for her family and her generosity of spirit. She brought warmth, wit, and wisdom to every room she entered. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a steadfast friend.

Lucky is survived by those who truly love her, daughters Tara King and Tracey Gallagher; her step-son Erik Stieg and his wife Ericka; grandchildren Dylan Watts, Kirah King, Baccara Baca, Logan Baca, Everett Stieg, and Emaline Stieg; and her great-granddaughter Luci Baca.

Lucky passed away on July 18, 2025. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Richard Stieg at Fort Logan National Cemetery on August 13th, 2025 and a celebration of her life will be held at the Frisco Marina in Frisco, Colorado on September 13th, 2025 from 11-3 PM.

In honoring Lucky, we remember a life beautifully lived—one full of purpose, passion, and above all, love. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
