Louis Franklin Mraz Jr.

September 24, 1941 — November 27, 2024

Aurora

Louis passed unexpectedly on November 27th, 2024, near his home in Aurora, Colorado. He was born September 24th, 1941, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Louis F. Mraz Sr. and Mary E. Mraz. Louis was also known as “Butch” within his family. He is survived by his loving wife Donna, two children; Mike and Andrea, and his six grandchildren: Simon, Isaiah, Naomi, Sev, Raff, and Carabella.

Lou and Donna met in High School, were married on June 26,1965, and moved about the country while Lou worked for the government. They landed in Aurora in 1977.

He earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of Connecticut and his Master of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of California, Berkley. As the Regional Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration, his work as a civil engineer made travel safer and easier for millions of people over his lifetime.

Lou loved old cars and served in various roles in both the Regional and National Early Ford V8 Club and the National Woodie Club. He enjoyed studying the history surrounding the Second World War and reading alternative historical fiction.

Lou was an avid animal lover and will be sorely missed by his dog, Ella, whom he spoiled with elaborate dinners.

As an Elder at Cornerstone Community Church, he faithfully worshipped with Donna and his loving Church Family.

A social person, Lou loved to tell the wide-ranging group of people he came into daily contact with “bad jokes,” and his sign-off was either “see you soon, God willing and the creek don’t rise” or “Stay out of trouble, as dull as that may seem.”

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his name be made to Cornerstone Community Church Aurora and The Dumb Friends League.
