With a heavy heart we are sad to announce Louann Eakins Nelson, 94, peacefully passed away December 30, 2025. She was born April 3, 1931, in Denver, Colorado.
A Denver native, Louann went to high school at St. Mary's Academy and attended the University of Denver where she studied Art and was a member of Delta Gamma.
She found her footing as a strong, independent woman, was proud to be a member of the Young Republicans and attended two national conventions as a delegate.
Louann believed in God and was a devout Catholic. While raising 5 children, she enjoyed a successful career with Megapolitan Mortgage.
Louann was Secretary Emeritus of the Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee and a member for over 50 years. She was instrumental in the success of the parade and thoroughly enjoyed participating in many aspects of the event.
Louann loved her country and was a long-time supporter of the Little Sisters of the Poor. She adored cats. She was known for her optimism and her favorite saying, “Everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.”
She enjoyed traveling, genealogy, movies, and collecting art. She was quick witted with a wonderful sense of humor and a lovable personality, often ending comments with a slight smirk and mischievous glance.
She loved her family dearly, and our matriarch will be deeply missed, and forever loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura M. Hemple and James M. Eakins; her siblings Shirley M. Ellerby, Tommy J. Eakins, and James Paul Eakins; and former husband Vernon H. Nelson.
She is survived by her children Steve (Ellen), Sheryl, Ronnie, Renee (Kelly), and Eric, and her beloved cat, Griff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Denver.
