Lois Sylvia Kemerling, our beautiful mom, was born on July 1, 1932 and peacefully passed away on June 17, 2025. She was a mom, a wife, a grandmother, and a great grandmother. Lois was loved by family and so many friends during the wonderful and full life she lived. She was 92 years old.
Lois was born in Inwood, Iowa to Leo and Ingrid Knutson. She also lived in Rock Rapids, Iowa and Sioux Falls, South Dakota with her parents and siblings: Marion, Allan, Lloyd and Sylvan. After high school she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls and went on to become an elementary school teacher there before meeting the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Kemerling. They were married in 1958 and had four children: Jim, Julie, Linda and Karen. They also had six grandchildren: April, Nicole, Greg, Lindsey, Jordan and Hayden as well as four great grandchildren: Harper, Hudson, Dylan and Paige.
Chuck and Lois moved from Sioux Falls, SD to Rapid City, SD in the late 1960’s. They were busy with work, raising four children and they were very involved in various community organizations. In the early 1980’s they moved to Minneapolis for Chuck’s work and then to Chicago before coming to Denver, CO where they lived into their retirement years. Lois continued to work as a teacher’s assistant in the school system in Highlands Ranch and the surrounding areas for many years. She also volunteered at the Highlands Ranch library where she had a children’s reading group and taught English as a Second Language. She was an outstanding example of volunteering and helping others.
Lois loved to sew and throughout the years, she made curtains, clothes and pillows for all of us. She could also bake some dessert bars that no one could quite compete with. She was a Sertoma member and was always involved at church and loved Jesus. She instilled the power of faith and building a foundation with God in all of us. We know she is in heaven with God, her loving husband, and all her dear loved ones who have gone before her. She was such a beautiful, fun-loving and nurturing mom. She taught us all how to love and be loved. We will miss her more than words can express and she is in all our hearts forever.
