Lloyd Hoffman

January 19, 1923 — March 14, 2015

Lloyd George Hoffman, Aurora, Colorado passed away at home on March 14, 2015. He was 92 years old. Born in Sheldon, Iowa in 1923, Lloyd was the fourth and youngest child of George and Lorraine (Pangborn) Hoffman. He grew up in Vermillion, South Dakota and attended school there until the 9th grade. He left school to work as a delivery boy for Western Union because, like so many others of that time, he needed to earn money to help support himself and his family. He was drafted into the United States Army in March of 1943 and after basic training in Arkansas, he served in the infantry and as a radio operator for the 24 months he spent in the Pacific during World War II. He was discharged from the service on January 1, 1946. He received many commendations for his courageous service to his country. After the war, Lloyd returned to Vermillion where he was married to Violet Miller. They had five children. They moved to Colorado where Lloyd worked two jobs to support his growing family. After Lloyd was divorced, he moved to Cortez, Colorado and lived with his children there for several years. Upon returning to the Denver area, Lloyd married Glatis Boyd who herself had six children. Soon they welcomed their daughter Lori and the family officially became ""Cheaper by the Dozen."" Lloyd worked for many years for Gates Rubber Company and later managed the Aurora Moose Lodge. Lloyd enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and hunting. In his later years, he became an avid Broncos, Avalanche and Rockies fan and rarely missed a game from the comfort of his easy chair. He watched old western movies, listened to books on tape and discovered a passion for painting figurines, which he gladly shared with his many family members. His numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren were always welcomed with a basket full of candy he kept filled for them at all times. Lloyd was a member of the Aurora Eagles, Aurora Moose, VFW and TREA. He met many friends through those organizations and with those friends, he raised money for various charitable causes, roasted many a pig at campouts and enjoyed other club activities throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald and his sisters Georgine Berquist and LaVonne Wieland and a great grandson Zachary Warren. He is survived by his wife, Glatis, his children Sandra Hoffman, Lynda Warren, Lloyd Jr. (Butch), Donald, Howard, and Lori Sova and by his step children, Curt, Rodney, Bobby and Kevin Boyd, Sherry Rohan and Cindy Dempsey and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation and honors by the Aurora Eagles will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21st at Horan and McConaty Mortuary, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, CO followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Military honors and interment will take place on Monday, March 23 at Fort Logan National Cemetery at noon. As Lloyd had many favorite charities, we ask any donations be made to the Hoffman family. They will distribute the funds to all of his charities.
