Lester Jamison Burkett passed away in Lakewood, Colorado on June 7, 2014 at the age of 79 and resided in Morrison, CO. Les was a 40 year veteran of the petroleum and mining industries. He started his career with The Carter Oil Company in 1957 which later became Humble Oil & Refining Company and subsequently Exxon Company, USA. His career with Exxon Companies took him to Tulsa, Oklahoma; Miles City & Billings, Montana; Salt Lake City, Utah; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and finally returned to Denver in 1967. He retired from Exxon in August of 1986 with 32 years of Service. After retirement from Exxon he started consulting work as a professional Landman until 1996. He had been a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen since 1964 and served on various committees and was a past officer of AAPL and was a Certified Professional Landman and the Exxon Annuitant Club of Colorado. He was a previous member of the Denver Association of Professional Landmen, the Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Oklahoma City, Michael Benedum Associations of Petroleum Landmen, Rocky Mountain Association of Mineral Landmen, and the Denver Petroleum Pioneers Association. Les was an Eagle Scout. He was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma and was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma in 1957 with a degree in Management from the School of Business. He is survived by his wife, Laurel; one daughter, Lanae Fehr (Kenneth) of Lakewood, Colorado; two sons, Jay of Scottsdale, Arizona, Lance (Holly) of Seattle, Washington; three granddaughters, Taelore Jean Fehr and Karlea Jamison Fehr of Lakewood Colorado, Marlee June Burkett; one grandson, Max Jamison Burkett of Seattle Washington.
