Feb 4, 1931 — Sep 6, 2026

Denver, CO

Lawrence C. Ellis, fondly known as Joe, passed away on September 6, 2026. Born in Holyoke, Colorado, in 1931, Joe was the only child of Wallace W. Ellis and Mary G. (O’Neil) Ellis. Joe graduated from Regis University and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. An avid WWII airplane buff, Joe had the unique experience of witnessing the last plane, an original Red Baron, leave his base in 1966.

Joe retired from Farmers Union in 1985 and fully embraced retirement. He joined a local bicycle club and volunteered his time at Wings Over the Rockies and Humane Colorado. He and his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Kay (Murray) Ellis, who preceded him in death, enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and spending time with close friends.

He is survived by his children: Chris Ellis, Mike Ellis, Diana Ellis (Ric Navarro), and Susan Ellis; his grandchildren, Fallon Gillespie (Josh Rengel), Brooke Gillespie, Devin Ellis, and Trajan Abbass; and his two great-grandchildren, Everett and Odette. Joe will be remembered for his unwavering dedication and deep love for his family, which will continue to warm our hearts.

Funeral services will be private, held with immediate family only. Committal will take place at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, September 23, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome at Humane Colorado.
