Lavern Rome

May 15, 1928 — April 21, 2018

Lavern F. Rome, 89, of Littleton, Colorado, died Saturday, April 21, 2018, after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Raymond, and their son, Edward. Her survivors include her sons, Ken (Lisa) of Littleton, Jerry (Susan) of Denver, and Larry (Kathy) of Greeley. She had six grandchildren, Christopher Rome, Marcie Rome, Matthew Rome, Jessica Dale, Jennifer Putman, and Andrew Rome. She has two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Landen. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda Rome Bruning. Lavern was born on May 15, 1928, and raised in Denver, Colorado. Her father, John Kadnuck, was born in Slovenia, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1915. Lavern’s mother, Corrina Popish, was also born in Denver, and was the daughter of two Slovenian immigrants. Lavern was one of four children. Her brothers, John and Robert, and her sister, Lorraine, preceded her in death. She graduated from Annunciation High School in 1947. Shortly after that, she met Ray who had just returned from serving in the US Air Force during World War II, flying B-17 missions over Germany. Lavern and Ray were married on May 13, 1950. By 1955, she was raising three boys, and then added a fourth in 1961. In addition to being a great mom, she also managed to work part time for many years as a retail clerk at a local grocery store. She and Ray were always actively involved in the Catholic Church. In 1995, Lavern and Ray retired and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. They spent 16 wonderful years there, being outdoors, playing golf, entertaining friends and neighbors, and encouraging their children to visit them often. Lavern might have even enjoyed herself a bit at the local casino. She moved back to Denver in 2012, a year after Ray’s passing, to be with her three boys and her grandchildren. A rosary is scheduled for Monday, April 30th, at 7:00 p.m., at Horan and McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth. Funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, at 10:30 am, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 6673 W Chatfield Ave. Internment following the mass at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
