It is with kind hearts that we honor Lathrop Fuller Mitchel, who passed away peacefully at the age of 103 on March 26th, 2025. Survived by (daughter) Gail Mitchel, (grandson) Scott Mitchel and Scott's wife and daughter Valerie and Maycee. Predeceased by (wife) Celeste, (son) David Mitchel and (twin brother) Vance Mitchel.
Born on November 9th, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lathrop graduated from Lansdowne High School in 1940 just as World War II began. He was volunteered as a medic for the United States Army from June 1942 to October 1945. Most of his service was completed in Tunisia, North Africa and Caserta, Italy.
After the war was over, he married one beautiful lass named Celeste, creating their family together, bringing Gail and David into the world and settling down in Upper Darby. There he provided for his family as a Simoniz Salesman selling car wax.
Lathrop was a man of the outdoors enjoying hunting, fishing, bird watching, and was even a Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts. For 15 years he was a devoted salesman before he went back to his calling in the medical field at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as a CNA. Lathrop and Celeste moved to Pine Beach where he joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
He continued to live a full life after moving in with his daughter Gail in Denver, Colorado watching his Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies play ball and reading books of history about the great war he fought.
Lathrop Fuller Mitchel left us with the most pleasant memories. He will surely be remembered! God Bless!
