Larry Lind

October 13, 1929 — November 17, 2014

Larry Lind went home to be with his Lord on November 17, 2014 at the age of 85. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge he began an apprenticeship with General Dynamics in the aerospace industry. During his career, he rose to Vice President at Cubic Corporation, U.S. Elevator, Amtech Reliable Elevator Corporation and Scientific Applications International Corporation. A creative designer, he holds 11 patents, including one for the fare collection system for BART, the San Francisco transit system, as well as the METRO in the D.C. area. At mid-life Larry gave his life to Jesus and embarked on a new calling. He attended a four-year Bible school and became a bi-vocational pastor in San Diego and was a Gideon speaker and active in a number of Christian businessman's associations. His heart was in missions and he was instrumental in the founding of an orphanage for children who lived at the Tijuana dump. After retirement, he served as senior pastor at the Silver Creek Community Bible Church in Snowflake, Arizona. Eventually the Linds settled in Tappahannock, Virginia where they were active members of Beale Memorial Baptist Church and Larry continued his ministry by teaching at the jail, Sunday School and a community Bible study. Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Judi, and four children: Craig Lind of Las Vegas, NV, Laurie Hakeman (Roger) of Tipton, IA, Tony Boren (Elauna) of Denver, CO, and Valerie Romick (Jayarr) of Spotsylvania, VA and sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and John George of Port Royal, VA. He was grandpa to Christopher, Krista, Brandon, Clinton, Josh, Vaila, McKenzie, Nick, and great-granddaughter Carolyn. He was preceded in death by son Danny Lind. A true Renaissance man, Larry was a sculptor, published author, and jewelry designer. He and Judi traveled extensively and lived in Rosarito, Mexico for two years. Always eager for adventure, Larry took up bull riding while in the service followed by years of diving and teaching diving (before Scuba gear was invented.) The golden years didn't slow him down much, he and Judi enjoyed white water rafting, para sailing and hot air ballooning. Larry indulged in sky diving and zip-lining well into his 70's. But the greatest joy in his life was introducing people to Jesus. A memorial service will be held at Beale Memorial Baptist Church in Tappahannock, VA on December 6, 2014, at 2:00pm.
