Klaus Karl Maria Kirchgessner passed away peacefully on the evening of January 29, 2025. He was 89 years old. Klaus was born and raised in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, an alpine ski town in Bavaria, Germany. As a young man, he was trained as a Mercedes-Benz (MB) factory service technician, and his work took him to several foreign countries, including 5 years on the island of Cyprus. In mid-1963, Klaus immigrated to America with his young family and settled in Denver, Colorado. He later held management positions at MB and he lived in several states, including NC, TX, CA, and NJ. After 42 years with MB, Klaus retired and returned to live in Denver for 32 years. Upon retirement, he took a part-time position as a Home Depot Associate, which he enjoyed.
Klaus was industrious and he liked to stay busy - often sweeping, cleaning and shoveling. One of his personal missions was to pick up litter wherever he saw it. Klaus could build, repair and maintain anything; and if he didn’t know how to do something, he would just figure it out and do it anyway. He had a strong work ethic and took pride in his home and his neighborhood.
Klaus was the third of four children, and he experienced World War II Germany between the ages of 4-10. Despite the war, he felt lucky to grow up in a beautiful mountain village where he started skiing as a young child and continued into his late 70s. He lived an active life as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and neighbor. Klaus leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, a daughter, a son, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was one-of-a-kind, and we miss him dearly.
Please share memories and condolences with Klaus' family by signing the guestbook.
