Kirsten Therese Cashion, known to many as Kitty, passed away peacefully on June 16th 2025 at the age of 56. She was born and raised in Buffalo Grove, Illinois on April 8th 1969, as the youngest of 5, Kirsten chased after friends and family, enjoying and excelling at many outdoor activities. She was active in several sports growing up and cherished the many family memories created at their family cottage in Door County, WI. Kirsten’s true passion involved all things water related, whether she was working as a lifeguard, on the swim team, or waterskiing at the lake; water was where she felt the happiest.
Kirsten attended St Mary’s Catholic School in Buffalo Grove, IL, then Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, IL. She later attended Northern Illinois University where she met her first husband, Trace Tyler, starting a family and later migrating to Colorado in 1997 with their two daughters. Kirsten and Trace parted ways in 2000, but continued to raise their daughters in Highlands Ranch, CO.
In 2004, Kirsten married Nick Cashion, joining their two families together. It was in their thriving social circle that Kirsten became Kitty. Together, they pursued their shared passion for travel, scuba diving, golf, live music, and good food. These passions were passed down to their children, often taking family vacations, cooking meals together, having block parties in the neighborhood, or spending time at their mountain house in Breckenridge where they would all ski together. Seeking breaks from Colorado’s cold winters, Kitty and Nick often traveled to tropical destinations like Mexico, Florida, Belize, and Cozumel. She loved the sand, the sun, the water, and the creatures above and below observed on their many dives. In between those trips, Nick and Kitty enjoyed golfing with friends and in tournaments, which led them to their community at Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club.
She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Sarah Larsen and her husband Chad, and Samantha Tyler; and by her two stepsons, Joshua and Travis Cashion, along with Travis’s wife Tatjana and their son, Mateo Nickolas, born in 2024. She will be deeply missed by her mother Lottisua “Tish” Moodhe and her siblings—Adam (Mary), Lydine (Timothy), Matthew (Mary), and Jennie (Tom)—and her many nieces and nephews who brought joy and richness to her life. Kitty is also fondly remembered by the large and loving extended family on Nick’s side, who always welcomed her with warmth and love. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles “Chuck” Moodhe.
Sadly, her loving husband Nick Cashion passed away in 2016, but Kitty’s family finds peace in knowing they are reunited—sitting side by side on a quiet white sandy beach, watching the sun set and rise again.
Kitty will be remembered for her fiery spirit, active lifestyle, and her remarkable gift for making friends wherever she went. Ever the social butterfly, Kitty kept in touch and reconnected with so many over the years that her family will be having two celebrations of her life, one in Colorado on July 12th and one in Illinois on July 26th. Please join us in celebrating her vibrant life at one or both of these celebrations.
