With deep love and profound gratitude for a life of service, we honor Kenneth Frederick Schmidt, who passed away on 28 March 2026, at the age of 79.
Kenneth was a proud American and a devoted patriot who dedicated 30 years of his life to the United States Air Force. Rising to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, he served his country with unwavering commitment, integrity, and strength. His service took him across the world—from Okinawa to Germany, Mississippi to New Mexico, and ultimately to Washington, D.C., where he concluded his distinguished career at the Pentagon. He carried the honor of his uniform not only in his duties, but in the way he lived his life everyday.
Born to Helen Wanda and Julius Bernard Schmidt, Kenneth was raised with strong values that shaped the man he became—a man of discipline, resilience, and deep compassion for others.
In his youth, Kenneth was a gifted gymnast at Plainedge High School in New York, a passion he later shared by teaching gymnastics to children while stationed in Okinawa. He was a tireless worker, never hesitating to take on extra responsibility to provide for those he loved. Whether through his military service or personal life, he gave his all.
Kenneth found joy in the simple and meaningful things—casting a line while fishing, listening to music on the newest audio equipment, capturing life through his Nikon cameras, and exploring new technology with curiosity and excitement. He had a brilliant mind and a quiet strength that drew people to him.
Above all, Kenneth was a man of heart. He was a steady presence, a wise advisor, and a patient listener. He loved deeply and generously, never forgetting his family and always showing up with kindness, humor, and care. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart, and he made sure each one knew they were valued.
He is survived by his beloved partner and sweetheart, Chiyo; his son Andrew (Helene); his cherished grandchildren Drew (Kat), Alyssa, and Aaron; and his great-grandson Bowen. He is also survived by his siblings Julie Lorraine (Jerry) Donolli and Larry (Susan) Schmidt, along with his nieces and nephews Gerald Schroeder, Todd Schroeder, Thomas Schmidt, Jacqueline Ward, Miku Matsuda, and Yumi Matsuda. He is reunited in eternal rest with his nephew Jeffrey Schroeder.
Services will be held on April 13, 2026, at Horan & McConaty-Centennial and Fort Logan National Cemetery:
