In Loving Memory of Kelly Ann Smith

August 13, 1971 - June 30, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kelly Ann Smith, who passed away on June 30, 2026, at the age of 54.

Born on August 13, 1971, in Denver, Colorado, Kelly entered the world nearly six weeks early and spent her first three months at Children's Hospital. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Kelly faced challenges from the very beginning, but her life would become a testament to determination, resilience, and the power of a loving family.

During her early school years, Kelly traveled regularly between her home and Denver to receive specialized education. Through her perseverance and the advocacy of her family, she became the first child in her area to be integrated into a regular classroom setting-an achievement that helped pave the way for greater inclusion of students with disabilities. Kelly later graduated from Summit High School, a milestone that reflected her hard work and determination.

After graduating from Summit High School, Kelly worked at the Holiday Inn, a job she deeply valued and took seriously. She was incredibly proud of her work and the independence it provided. Kelly's commitment was unwavering, she never missed a day of work and could always be counted on to show up with determination and a smile. Her dedication and dependability were a source of pride for both Kelly and her family.

Kelly was the inspiration behind Wine in the Pines; a fundraiser whose proceeds support Abilities Connection Colorado's Kelly Smith Employment Center. Through the center that bears her name, Kelly's legacy continues to provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to achieve meaningful employment and live fulfilling lives.

Kelly was a beloved and familiar presence at the Timberline Adult Day Program Center in Frisco, Colorado, where she proudly served as the self-appointed "Assistant Director." Her title may have been unofficial, but her impact was very real. Kelly had a gift for making people smile. She brought energy, humor, and enthusiasm wherever she went.

Kelly's smile lit up a room and brought joy to everyone. Thanks to the unwavering love and devotion of her parents, Mike and Margaret Smith, Kelly experienced life to the fullest. Together they created countless memories, embracing opportunities, adventures, and experiences that enriched her life and the lives of those around her. Her life was defined through her strength, joy, determination, and love of life. Kelly is survived by her loving parents, Mike and Margaret Smith; her brother, Mike Smith, and sister-in-law, Diane Smith; her sister, Dena (Smith) Krenik, and brother-in-law, Dave Krenik; and her cherished nieces, Lauren Krenik and Sydney Krenik. She also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, caregivers, and community members whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.

Kelly's life was a powerful reminder that obstacles do not determine a person's potential. She leaves behind a legacy of inclusion, perseverance, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we celebrate a life that was lived with courage, purpose, and joy. Kelly will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
