Kathy Andersen Porter, 67, a resident of Centennial, Colorado, was born on August 24, 1954, to John and Darlene Andersen in Redfield, South Dakota. Unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Graduating in 1972 from Redfield Public School, Kathy and her son, Matthew, left Redfield behind, in 1976 moved to Rapid City, South Dakota. And then headed for the big city of Denver, Colorado, where she met her husband-to-be, I.C. Porter, while working together. Their second son, Ian, was born in 1986.
Kathy was that rare individual who was always in motion, whether working all those years in administration at AT&T (MaBell), US West, Adelphia, RevGen. She loved crafting and making fun gifts for others, always trying new projects, planning events of various types, for work, family, and her community. Always helping others with anything and everything, all with a loving and giving heart. This is what truly made her happy. She was a book club member, enjoyed volunteering at Gabriel House, gardening and bird watching, going to the pool for water aerobics or just floating and chatting with pool ladies! Of late, though, Kathy was basking and beaming as - at last - a new grandma to granddaughter, Anaaya.
Kathy had a wonderful family, who will miss here dearly. Her husband of 36 years, I.C. Porter also of Centennial, Colorado; son, Matthew J. Mommer, his husband, Daniel W Fry, of Pine Plains, New York; youngest son, Ian C. Porter III, his wife, Juhi, of Burbank, California; new granddaughter, Anaaya Porter; her mom, Darlene Andersen of Aurora, Colorado; sister Trisha Pearson of Spanish Fort, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her dad, John C. Andersen.
Kathy was truly a blessing in our lives, and we will forever treasure the time we had with her, cherish wonderful memories and yet miss her desperately. There isn’t a person that she met that didn’t feel better by knowing her. In that, a Celebration of Life will be planned for a time, hopefully in the not-too-distant future, when family members are able to be together to gather with friends and loved ones.
