Beloved Denver resident Kathryn Marie Halpin, born November 8, 1945, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loving children Lisa Rice Inkret, Diana Rice Boutwell, and Jeannine Rice Holland, after a long and brave struggle with ovarian cancer. Always keeping an optimistic attitude about her illness, Kathryn never referred to her diagnosis as a battle, instead, referring to it as a journey.
Kathryn was a loyal and valued member of many local organizations and charities, including the Cherry Creek Chamber of Commerce, the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, Cherry Creek Leads group, the International Furnishings and Design Association, Aqua Babes, and the Handlerettes. She was a distinguished member of the Denver Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee for over 40 years. Kathryn was also a loyal member of Christ the King Catholic Parish since 1966. A lover and strong supporter of the local music and performing arts community, Kathryn often attended plays and concerts accompanied by her many beloved friends. Kathryn enjoyed nothing more than forming a sense of community and uniting people who may have never made that connection otherwise. She enjoyed giving freely of her time and talents and found joyful energy when surrounded by friends and family. She was blessed with a curious mind and a love of travel. She had a great sense of humor. She loved the finer things – good food, beautiful art, great music and, most of all, amazing people. She was kind-hearted and was always trying to come up with ways to brighten someone’s day.
Kathryn is survived by her daughters Lisa Inkret and husband Clay Dillingham, Diana Boutwell and husband Chris, Jeannine M. Holland and husband Joe, and stepson Mike Halpin and wife Marti. She is also survived by her grandchildren Monica Halpin-Brown, Matt Halpin, Sarah Gabriel, Julie Spies; Laura and Will Inkret; and Joseph, Kenna, Lyndsey, and Morgan Holland; and great grandchildren, Samantha and Logan Halpin, Audrey and Elias Gabriel, Eliza Spies, and Rhydian Holland. Kathryn’s half siblings Cherie Anderson, Vici Fabry, Valerie Favreau, and Kirk Anderson also survive her.
Of equal importance, Kathryn is also survived by many wonderful friends whom she considered family. Her friends were a blessing always and Kathryn’s family thanks them for their unwavering love and support throughout her illness. Kathryn’s family also extends thanks to Dr. Alan Feiner and the staff at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, Dr. Lindsay Brubaker and the staff at UC Health Cherry Creek, and the angels with All Seasons Hospice for their excellent care in Kathryn’s final days.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Steve J. Halpin, her mother Dorothy E. Anderson, father Robert McKee Anderson, stepdaughter Christine Halpin, and Gretchen the Wonder Dog.
A memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 830 Elm Street, Denver 80220, Friday, October 17, 2025, at 4 pm.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the National Kidney Foundation, or another organization that spreads goodness into the world. In her memory, please keep your hearts and minds open and share your smile with the people around you.
