Kathleen “Kathy” Rodriguez, age 60, a resident of Lafayette, CO, passed away from cancer on Saturday December 27, 2025, surrounded by family in her home. Kathy was born on January 23, 1965 in Detroit, MI. She moved with her Mom and Dad a few years later to Colorado, where she spent the rest of her life. She graduated from Fairview High School in 1983. The summer before her senior year, she met the love of her life, Robert, at Lafayette days. They were married on July 20, 1985 in Boulder and were soulmates who were inseparable in life. They welcomed two daughters, the first that same year (1985) and their second one three years later (1989).
Kathy was a very caring, loving and dedicated wife, mom, grandma and friend to all. She was a very generous person, giving to anyone who needed her help. She loved to share her passion for crafting, often teaching people how to crochet, cross stitch and sew. If she was capable of helping, she would be there to donate her time and skills. She never met a stranger, as her personality would allow her to learn the entire life story of the person in front of her in the grocery store line by the time they got up to the register.
She loved to play all kinds of games, whether it was board games with her kids and grandkid, or the penny slots at the casino, where she often came away as a winner. Kathy loved to thrift, often selling her finds on eBay. Christmas was her favorite holiday; she loved to flex her creative skills with decorating and making it memorable. The Grinch was her favorite Christmas character, as evidenced by the numerous pieces of memorabilia displayed around the house. She was a big fan of 80s and country music, especially Elton John, Styx and Carrie Underwood. Kathy was known to have her nails beautifully manicured which she would always enjoy doing with her daughter.
One of her greatest joys in life was being a grandma. She spent the first few years of her grandson’s life taking care of him during the day. She could always be found cheering him on at a baseball or football game. Kathy, the ever generous grandma, could be found at school events or chaperoning field trips. She spoiled him endlessly, always giving him sweets, taking him to the bowling alley, museums or craft shows. She enjoyed finding activities for them to do together, creating countless crafts and memories.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years Robert Rodriguez of Lafayette; daughters Erika Weeks (Grady) of Colorado Springs and Amy Rodriguez-Ness (Kenny) of Thornton; grandchildren Eli Ness, Olivia, Emma and Avery Weeks, and loving extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Joan Olivas, father Harold Casillas, and sister Andrea Casillas.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with, as well as those she reached but never met. The family invites you to share your memories of Kathy at the viewing, funeral or reception.
