Karl Darrell Funk passed away peacefully on April 3rd following a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis and most recently Hodgkins Lymphoma. He spent his final weeks at home in the company of loved ones. Born on September 21, 1955, Karl was known for his dedication, resilience, and commitment to family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dian Funk; his daughters, Kandace Anders and Britania Funk; his sons, Randy Funk and Michael Funk; his grandchildren, Erin, Dani, Megan, Olivia, and Berlenty, and his brother, Kurtis Funk.
Karl began his professional journey at Keebler Cookie Company in 1976, which sparked his interest in repair work, creative endeavors and meeting long life friends. After the plant’s closure in 2001, he joined the City of Broomfield as a maintenance technician, where he served with distinction for ten years.
During the transition between employers, Karl and Diane relocated from Dover Street to their rural home within the city. There, he undertook a significant expansion of their residence, tripling its original size and endearingly naming it the “End of Road Ranch.”
Due to health concerns, Karl retired from the City of Broomfield. In retirement, he cherished time with his grandchildren and continued to pursue household improvement projects, completing a bathroom renovation just one month before his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern Funk and Velda Collier, and his sister, Kathrene Shafto.
Karl will be remembered for his professional service, unwavering strength, kindness, humor, and deep devotion to his family and friends. His most cherished roles were those of father, grandfather, brother and friend.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Horan & McConaty in Arvada, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly welcomes donations to St. Jude’s in Karl’s honor.
