Karen Lee Torp

April 20, 1943 — March 8, 2025

It is with both sadness and gratitude that we remember and celebrate the life of Karen Torp, a remarkable woman who lived a full and meaningful life in service to her faith, community, and the many friendships she cherished.

Karen was born in Wyoming in 1943 to John and June Torp, and shortly after, her family moved to Colorado, where her beloved younger brother, John, joined the family. She pursued her passion for education, earning a degree from the University of Northern Colorado and dedicating over 25 years to the Colorado GED program. She took great pride in her work and the impact she made on the lives of countless students.

Retiring young, Karen embraced a life of adventure, traveling the world and often saying, “I need a beach fix” before setting off on her next journey. She and her brother John shared many endeavors, from running a video store to fixing and flipping houses, always enjoying each other’s company. Karen was fiercely independent, taking pride in the fact that she was able to support herself throughout her life. She deeply loved her home and was grateful to spend her final days there, just as she had wished.

Karen’s faith was central to her life, and she was a devoted member of The Light of Christ Anglican Church from its founding in 2000. She was a dedicated volunteer, spending every Thursday in the church office, calling volunteers, folding bulletins, writing anniversary and birthday cards, and ensuring the sanctuary was always well-kept. She ushered nearly every Sunday, coordinated volunteers, and took it upon herself to clean the pew cushions and carpets when needed. Whether it was a funeral, wedding, or baptism, Karen was always there—arriving early to help set up and staying late to ensure everything was in order.

Her generosity extended beyond the church, as she provided rides to fellow parishioners, invited others to join her exercise group at the YMCA, and maintained an active social life filled with friends and hobbies. She loved the theatre, creating glass jewelry and yard art, and, above all, traveling—her final trip taking her to the beautiful Azores.

Karen was a dear friend to many, though she never sought recognition for her kindness and service. She lived humbly, loved deeply, and served faithfully. Now, she embarks on her final and eternal journey, finding peace in the arms of her Savior.

Godspeed, good and faithful servant—you will be dearly missed.
