Karen Eilleen Popish

October 18, 1940 — November 8, 2014

Karen Eilleen (Hackenberg) Popish October 18, 1940 ~ November 8, 2014 Karen Eilleen (Hackenberg) Popish passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2014, surrounded by her family and loved ones, in Westminster, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Lloyd; and siblings, Lloyd Hackenberg, Kenneth Hackenberg, Robert (Rose) Hackenberg, and Dale ""Nick"" Hackenberg. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Chuck and Lianne Popish, Debbie Breese and Vince Botsko, & Terri and Denise Popish; six grandchildren and their spouses, David and Cara Dolan, Annette Gaschler, Brett Popish and Jenna Swanson, Bryan Butts, Dennis Johnson, & Dillon Johnson; five great grandchildren, Blain & Mackenzie Gaschler, Taylor Schreckengost, TeriLynn Dolan, and Daisy Butts; siblings, Darlene (the late ""Nick"") Avenetti, Donna (the late ""Duck"") Chenoweth, Lyle (Doris) Hackenberg, Donald (the late Patricia Hackenberg), Rick (Sharon) Hackenberg, Carol (Kirk) Harshman; and numerous nieces & nephews. Karen was born in Plattsmouth, Nebraska on October 18, 1940 to Russell & Creda Hackenberg and grew up with nine other siblings. On June 8, 1957 she married Lloyd Popish and they both held true to their word to love each other 'til death do them part. They were married for 51 years at the time of Lloyd's passing in 2008! Karen & Lloyd's first child, Chuck, was born in 1958, with Debbie to follow in 1959, and Terri to follow in 1964. To Karen, her family was her life, not only her children but her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Karen didn't work as Lloyd was the provider of the household but many would say that she had the toughest job of all; being a stay-at-home mom raising her three children and when the time came, helping babysit and raise her grandchildren. Karen loved crafts and recruiting her grandchildren to help her in her projects. Even in her last days, she was still saving little pieces of scraps to add pieces to her Fairy Garden. Halloween was one of her favorite Holidays because this was the time she could bring her craft skills to life dressing up her children & grandchildren. She was so good that a couple of her grandchildren even won Halloween contest from time to time! During the nice weather months, she was always outdoors in her gardens and yard making them the best in the neighborhood and as elaborate as she could make them. She definitely had a ""green thumb"" that she passed along to her youngest daughter, Terri. However, even being as busy as she was in the yard, she would never miss an episode of Days of Our Lives, One Life to Live, or Dr. Phil. Karen will be remembered most for her incredible sense of humor, always finding the funny side of any situation, her love for her dogs, and the love of her family; both immediate and extended. Karen loved many and is loved by many. She will surely be missed and her legacy will live on in the memories of those who were privileged enough to know her best. Viewing, Monday, November 17, 2014, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, with Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 AM, both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, in Arvada, Colorado. Interment follows at 1:30 PM, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Area ""B"", 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, in Denver, Colorado.
