Karen Kristine Newland

Karen Kristine Newland, 62, of Lakewood, Colorado passed away June 3, 2019 at Sky Ridge Medical Center from complications of endometrial cancer. Karen was born December 11, 1956 in Wheatland, Wyoming to Wilma R. Harms and Lloyd C. Newland. She was the eldest of Wilma and Lloyd's four children. Karen was a wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.

As a child, she was an active member of 4H and French club, winning many ribbons and participating in class trips to Paris. She graduated from Lakewood High School in 1975. She married her high school sweetheart Donald Duran in 1977. They had one daughter, Janette Duran, born in 1979. After divorcing in 1981, she met Michael Siefkes and they were married in 1984. They had one son, Andrew Siefkes, born in 1986. After 20 years of marriage, Karen and Mike divorced.

Karen worked as an entrepreneur and social media marketing expert, starting many of her own companies. Your Go 2 Gals being the most recent and most successful. With Your Go 2 Gals, she helped many small businesses advertise on Facebook by creating and launching their ad campaigns.

In 2012 Karen's heart was captured by the birth of her granddaughter, Natalie Bokody. Karen's granddaughter was her heart, joy, and the person she loved the most. She always looked forward to their days spent together and would proudly tell anyone who would listen about how amazing her granddaughter is. Beyond her granddaughter, her interests included family, travel, politics, reading, crafting, astrology, tarot, spirituality, and science fiction movies/tv shows. She was also a frequent volunteer for multiple personal growth organizations and gave free business advice in many Facebook groups.

Karen is preceded in death by her Grandparents, Frank A. Harms, Emma Mae Harms (Clark), Ellis W. Newland, and Twila I. Newland (Strobel). She is survived by her mother and step-father, Wilma and Walter Stroh; her father and step-mother, Lloyd and Donna Newland; one daughter and her husband, Janette and Alexander Bokody; one son and his soon to be wife, Andrew Siefkes and Annette Hay; one granddaughter, Natalie Bokody; one brother and his wife, Lloyd and Vicci Newland; two sisters, Janice Newland, Donna and her husband Diego Herrera; and numerous aunts, step-siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019, 1pm at Horan & McConaty Centennial, 5303 E County Line Rd, Centennial, Colorado 80122.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Karen's name to one of the following organizations that she frequently contributed to: Planned Parenthood, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Environmental Defense Fund, the ACLU, or the progressive democrat politician of your choice.
