Julie Anne Miller-Morton, beloved by all who met her, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30th, 2026 after an 18 month hard-fought battle against cancer. Her daughters were present with her at the hospital.
She is survived by her daughters, Madison Prentice (Drew Prentice) and Makenzie Morton (Kyle Haubrich). We have to specially mention that she loved her dogs, Lucy and Louis, her miniature dachshunds. While Julie didn't have grandkids yet, she loved her furry grandkids like they were hers (Ella, Loki, Opal, and Jade).
Julie is also survived by her parents Charles Gordon Miller and Karen Irene Miller. Also remaining to cherish her memory includes her middle brother Derek Miller (Lori Miller, Evan and Amanda Miller, and Will Miller), and younger brother Steven Miller (Andrea Miller, Karl, and Graham Miller).
Julie grew up mostly in Ottawa, Lawrence, and Topeka, Kansas - and was a cheerleader when she attended Topeka West High School where her friends nicknamed her "Jules”. She attended and graduated college with a Business Administration degree from Kansas State University. She paved the way for her legacy of becoming the first woman in the family to graduate college, in addition to being an active member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
Before graduating college, Julie married Mark Morton in August of 1982. After traveling and enjoying their time together, Mark and Julie had their first daughter Madison in 1991, and later their second daughter Makenzie in 1995. As a family they lived in Lenexa and Leawood, Kansas, then headed west to Colorado Springs, Colorado and journeyed to Mesa, Arizona briefly before returning to Windsor and Fort Collins, Colorado. Later Julie settled into Colorado Springs again where she was surrounded by close friends.
Over the course of her life, Julie worked jobs such as being a buyer and manager at Hallmark, created her own stationary company, sold real estate, and worked in new home sales for several reputable builders. In her career in new home sales, she won multiple awards for being the top salesperson for several years. After having her daughters, Julie took a long break from the corporate world where she became a full time mom, which must have been her true calling because she was the best mom anyone could ask for.
Julie always loved traveling all over the world. While she grew up in Kansas, she always made time for family vacations and ski trips to explore all over Colorado, which she continued after moving there. She enjoyed ski trips with friends and family, as well as “glamping” at Mount Princeton. She was always involved with her local community, whether it was being a Girl Scout Brownie leader, or leading a girls cheer squad. Julie always loved a good margarita with friends, but more than that, she loved going on hikes. One of her favorite hikes was Red Rock Canyon in southern Colorado Springs. She was a reliable and kind friend who was always consistently there for her friends, no matter the distance. She always had a compassion for animals, seeing that she provided homes to several pets over the years through fostering. Julie enjoyed her dogs, including the occasional cat or bird she would raise also.
Julie should be remembered for her warm heart, her beaming smile, and how she spread her happiness to those around her. You remember someone for how they made you feel, and Julie always made sure others left her side feeling better than they did before. She was a loyal friend, devoted mother, cherished daughter, and compassionate sister.
Julie, we will love you always. "It's not goodbye, it's see you later" - Steven Miller.
