Obituary

Julia Angela Granato, a woman of profound faith, deep devotion, and boundless love for her family, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on June 19, 1929 to Carmine and Sofia Palermo, Julia lived a long and beautiful life, leaving behind a legacy woven from the threads of dedication, grace, and an enduring strength.

Julia grew up in Denver alongside her three siblings, graduating from North High School. It was the foundation for a life that would soon become centered on the beautiful vocation of family. She found her true partner in life when she married George Granato. Together, they shared an extraordinary journey of 67 years—a marriage built on mutual respect, deep companionship, and unwavering commitment until George's passing on May 10, 2016.

As a mother, Julia was unparalleled. She poured her heart into raising her two beloved daughters, Georgetta and Patricia, instilling in them the values of love, kindness, and resilience that would shape her family through generations.

Julia is survived by her devoted daughters and their families: Georgetta (Granato) Makelky, who lovingly remembers her late husband Pete Makelky (who passed away on October 5, 2022); and Patricia (Granato) Fischer and her husband John Fischer. She is also survived by her dear sister, Mary (Palermo) DeBell. Her legacy further blooms in the lives of her grandchildren Jessica Fischer; Shannon (Fischer) McNicholas and her husband Jason McNicholas along with her great-grandchildren Sofia McNicholas and Shaylee McNicholas, each of whom brought immense joy, laughter, and pride to her later years. Julia was predeceased by her beloved brothers, Dominic Palmer and Mario Palmer.

Throughout her 96 years, Julia was guided by three great passions: her family, her faith, and her rose garden. Her faith was the anchor of her soul, providing her with comfort and a compass through all of life’s seasons. Her family was her greatest treasure, the absolute center of her world. And in her garden, Julia found a quiet sanctuary, tending to her roses with the same patience, tenderness, and meticulous care that she extended to everyone she loved. Much like the roses she so beautifully nurtured, Julia brought vibrant color, elegance, and sweetness to the lives of all who knew her.

May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved George, her parents and her brothers, in the heavenly gardens of the Lord.
