Judith Raechel Collings

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith Raechel Collings, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Judy passed away on May 16, 2025, at the age of 83. Born to John and Margaret Lampe in Spencer, Iowa, Judy lived a life filled with dedication, love, and an unyielding commitment to her family and community.

As a child, Judy’s family moved frequently due to her father’s work, and she attended five different grade schools and three high schools. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1959, and later pursued higher education at Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics, with a secondary degree in Education, in 1963. Her love for learning continued throughout her life, and in 1991, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, along with her Certified Bank Auditor (CBA) certification.

Judy’s career spanned both education and banking. She started as a middle school math teacher, where she inspired countless students. Later, she transitioned to a successful career as an internal bank auditor, combining her sharp analytical mind with her deep sense of integrity and responsibility.

On June 12, 1965, Judy married the love of her life, David Collings. Together, they built a family that was her greatest joy. Judith was preceded in death by her son Timothy (Timmy), a miscarriage, her parents John and Margaret Lampe, and her sisters Janice McVicar (Tom), Bonnie Berndt (Bill), and Margaret (Peggy) Albracht (living husband David).

She is survived by her devoted husband, David, and their children: Ted Collings (Shelly), Ann Gellner (Jon), Tom Collings (Cora), John Collings (Christine), and Peter Collings (Beckie). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Ben, Katie, Holden, Tessa, Tara, Kenna, Etta, Noel, and Lindsey, who were a constant source of joy in her life.

Judy had a deep love for her family, which was the foundation of her life. Her other passions included stitching, reading, playing the piano, and nurturing her strong faith. Judy’s gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

In honoring Judy’s memory, we celebrate the incredible woman she was: a loving mother, an accomplished professional, and a steadfast friend. Her family takes comfort knowing that her love and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Acoustic Neuroma Foundation, as Judy’s kindness and generosity knew no bounds.

Rest in peace, Judy. You will be dearly missed.
