Judith (Judy) Ann Roybal, age 76 passed away on December 16th, 2024. She was surrounded by family and went peacefully. Born April 20th, 1948, in Platteville, Colorado, inside her Grandparents house Frank and Mercedes Salamanca, to her parents Ben C. Martinez and Alice Felicitas Martinez. She had 2 brothers, Ben Martinez Jr, and Robert Martinez. She also had a half Brother Alfonzo Martinez, and 2 half-sisters Frances Martinez and Cecilia Dominguez.
She was married in 1984 to Alfred (Al) Roybal her long time sweetheart and was the stepmother to Gino Roybal and Monica Reyna. Judy who was also loving referred to as Nina and simply Aunty had 22 nieces and nephews (BC, Jennifer, Ramon, Yosette, Neal, Amos, Joe, Sal, Theresa, Angela, Dennis, Raymond, Erine, Johnny, Frank, Robert, Margie, Florence, Roy, Paul, Sandra and Annette) who loved her dearly and often considered her as a second mom. At her passing she had over 30 grand nieces and nephews that she was also very close to and who also thought of her as more than just their aunt.
She was an entrepreneur owning her own business out of her beauty salon that was built onto the back of her parents’ house Ben and Alice Martinez where she worked until her official retirement in the early 2000’s. No matter the day there were conversations ranging from current tabloid headlines, topics of the day, and neighborhood news. The salon was a place of comfort and friendship with memories that we all hold near and dear. It was a favorite past time for her nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
As a lifelong Broncos fan, her and Al always watched them cheering them on through thick and thin. She was also an avid bowler and many of her nieces and nephews have fond memories of her taking them to the bowling alleys while she was competing in her several bowling leagues. This became sort of a rite of passage to many of them and spending time with her was a coveted memory. Judy also liked to play poker other games with her many friends or take trips up the hill to Blackhawk or Central City. She and Al would also go to Las Vegas where between the two of them they usually came back winners.
Judy throughout her life was a faithful parishioner of the Catholic religion devoting a lot of her time serving on the board or in various committees at Our Lady of Visitation until it closed. She was also in the choir, was a reader at services and taught catechism. Judy was more than just a teacher or mentor she offered guidance and insight and was always there to listen when anyone needed it.
She is preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents Ben and Alice and her brother Robert.
Her legacy and love will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she touched.
