In Loving Memory of Nita

Our beautiful, sweet, angelic Nita passed away peacefully of natural causes on the evening of August 18, 2026, at her home in Westminster, Colorado, surrounded by the love of her husband and four children.

Nita was the fifth of six children born to Raymond and Genevieve Sainz on September 14, 1951, in Denver, Colorado. She experienced the loss of her mother, Genevieve, at a very young age when her mother passed away from a brain hemorrhage. Despite this heartbreaking beginning, Nita grew into a strong, loving and resilient woman who devoted her life to her family.

Nita was a 1970 graduate of West High School. During her senior year, she met her future husband, Ron, while they were both working at a bank. After two years of dating, they were married on January 3, 1972. Their family soon grew with the arrival of their four children: Michelle, Patricia, David and Tom.

In 1975, with two toddlers in tow, Nita and Ron relocated to Aberdeen, Scotland, where Ron worked for an oil company. They returned to Colorado in 1977 and began the lifelong adventure of raising their four children.

Nita faced numerous medical challenges throughout her life, including three brain surgeries to treat an AVM and two aneurysms. Later in life, she developed diabetes, which ultimately led to seven years of dialysis. Through all of these challenges, Nita showed remarkable strength and courage. She was never one to feel sorry for herself and faced each obstacle with determination and grace. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the medical professionals who cared for Nita throughout the years.

Nita loved crafts and was known for going “all in” on whatever captured her interest. Whether it was ceramics, crocheting, needlepoint, calligraphy or cake baking, she approached each new hobby with creativity, enthusiasm and dedication. Her hands were rarely still, and the things she created reflected the love and care she put into everything she did.

Above all, Nita cherished her family. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 54 years, Ron; her four children, Michelle Peters, Patty McDougal (Cary), David Smith (Holly) and Tom Smith (Danielle); and her seven grandchildren, Scott, Charlie, Alex, Ryan, Andrew, Draecen and Isidora. She is also survived by her sister, Mary, and brother, Ray.

Nita was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Genevieve, and her brothers Tony, Pat and Joe.

Nita leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories and a family who will forever carry her in their hearts. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
