Joseph E. Gallo, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 18, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on June 8, 1942, in Waterbury, Connecticut. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Giacomo "James" and Elizabeth Gallo, and his dear sister, Patricia Martelli.
In 1962, Joe married Sylvia, the love of his life, with whom he shared many wonderful years. Together, they raised three children, James, Joseph Jr., and Jean Marie, instilling in them the values of hard work, education, and perseverance. Joe was also blessed with six grandchildren (Karissa, Olivia, Joe III, Courtney, Donnie, and Morgan). His dedication to hard work and his career, supported by Sylvia, created numerous opportunities for his family.
Joe began his career in retail in Waterbury, eventually building an impressive lifelong career as a retail executive. His roles ranged from Store Manager and Buyer to Executive Vice President and Senior Vice President, Regional Director of Stores. His career took his family from Connecticut to Colorado in the late 1970's, and later to Louisville, Kentucky, Rochester, New York, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the late 1980's, his career brought his family back to Colorado, where they always wanted to return.
Upon retirement, Joe became an active community member, volunteering for mental health organizations such as the Mental Health Association of Colorado and NAMI National Alliance on Mental Illness. This was a cause that meant a lot to him. He developed and facilitated community mental health trainings and presented at national conferences and participated in community fundraising events to support those suffering from mental illness.
In his leisure time, Joe enjoyed music, movies, creating art, his beloved dog Maggie, and spending time with his family, who were his pride and joy. His kindness and loving support will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his children, Jim, Joe, and Jean; and his six grandchildren. He is also remembered fondly by his extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness (www.namiadco.org) in Joseph's honor.
