John was born and raised in Colorado Springs, a second generation native. He spent some time in Mississippi with his mother’s family while his father served in WWII. After the war, his grandfather, Judge Young, served two years as a presiding judge at the Nuremburg Tribunals. He is survived by his wife Claire and daughter Tricia.
He and Claire met at U of Denver in 1964 and married in 1966. Daughter Kathy arrived in 1967 and the family moved to Cincinnati where John worked for Proctor & Gamble. After adding Tricia to the family in 1969, they returned to Denver in 1970.
After several jobs in marketing and sales, John became self-employed in 1982 in a business he called Personalized Products. He loved creating items that had a personal touch - - your own name, company name, logo, or even a photo. And he loved to give things away at parties and events he called “Moments to Remember”.
John was very proud of being a Charter Member of the Monaco South Optimist Club since 1976. He was actively involved in their weekly meetings and many projects until his memory began to decline. The creation of the Tamarac Optimist Club was his pride and joy 31 years ago. He also sang in the St Andrew Methodist Church choir from 2002 until 2014 and loved every minute of that experience. He sang with Silverado Choir from 2014 till covid shut it down in 2020. In 2021, he was inducted into his high school Hall of Fame for his many years of community service.
Celebration of John’s life will be held at St Andrew Methodist Church, 9203 So University Blvd, on Sept. 18th at 2:00 pm. Reception following.
